# Download the M2 by Country CSV: 164 Economies, No Email Required

This is the M2 by country CSV: one file, `moneymass-broad-money.csv`, 164 rows — one per economy with its own broad-money series — covering 2008 through 2026-06. Download it free, no email, no account, no signup. Each row carries the source series plus M2 Index's own yoy, cagr10, doubling and USD-conversion columns.

## Get the file

The full dataset is one file, `moneymass-broad-money.csv`, attached to this page: [`/posts/data/moneymass-broad-money.csv`](/posts/data/moneymass-broad-money.csv). One file, one page — no per-country split, no API key.

The IMF SDMX broad money series feeds 156 rows at monthly frequency: 154 at `MFS_MA/BM_MAI`, 2 at `MFS_DC/DCORP_L_BM`. World Bank WDI backfills 7 more at annual frequency, under `FM.LBL.BMNY.CN`. That backfill methodology applies only where the IMF publishes no monthly series. Check the indicator code before you cite: `FM.LBL.BMNY.CN` is a currency level, not `FM.LBL.BMNY.GD.ZS`, the GDP-share indicator, which is not in this file. The Euro Area row (`EMU`) comes from the ECB's BSI M3 database, monthly. Full method: the [methodology page](/posts/methodology/).

## What each column means

| Column | What it is |
|---|---|
| `iso3` | ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 where one exists. Five rows carry the IMF's own area code instead: `EMU`, `G309` (ECCU), `G759` (WAEMU), `KOS`, `WBG`. |
| `name` | The entity's name as published by its source (legal names, not slugs). |
| `period` | The observation date behind `latest` — `YYYY-MM` or `YYYY`. Ranges 2008-05 to 2026-06 — check this before comparing any two rows. |
| `latest` | The most recent observation, in the currency named by `unit`. |
| `unit` | `XDC` (155 rows) · `EUR` (4) · `USD` (5) — `XDC` is the IMF's generic "domestic currency" code, not a real ISO 4217 one. |
| `value_usd` | `latest`, converted using the World Bank's USD conversion at period-average rates (`PA.NUS.FCRF`, annual). Blank on 4 rows — see below. |
| `yoy` | Growth over the last 12 months. Blank on 2 rows — see below. |
| `cagr10` | The 10-year average annual growth rate — **not the same number as `yoy`.** Blank on 5 rows whose ten-year window cannot be trusted — see below. |
| `doubling` | Years to double at the `cagr10` rate. A calculation, not a forecast. Blank on 7 rows: the 5 carrying no `cagr10`, plus 2 whose `cagr10` is negative. |
| `since` | The coverage start year. |
| `n_obs` | Observation count from `since` to `period`. |
| `source` | `IMF MFS_MA/BM_MAI` covers 154 rows; India and Somalia use the depository-corporations series, `IMF MFS_DC/DCORP_L_BM`, instead. `World Bank FM.LBL.BMNY.CN (annual)` backfills 7. `ECB BSI M3 (U2)` sources the Euro Area row. |

## `yoy` is not `cagr10`

They measure different things and can point opposite ways on the same row. Sudan's broad money grew 186.3% in the year to 2021-04 (`yoy`) but averaged 50.7% a year over the decade before that (`cagr10`). Dominica runs the other way: 10.3% in the year to 2026-02, only 1.1% a year on the 10-year average. Quote either number without naming which one it is, and the claim is wrong by construction. `doubling` inherits the rule — years to double at the 10-year average, never a forecast.

## What this file is not

It is not seasonally adjusted — we publish every figure as the raw reported level. It does not use one harmonised definition of "money": broad-money definitions differ by country, so two rows are not always measuring quite the same thing. Separately, the euro area travels as a single row (`EMU`) rather than as member states. The 20 members this dataset covers have no national money supply to report, and their pages point here instead.

It is not complete either, and every gap is listed here by ISO3 code.

No `value_usd` on 4 rows — `AIA` (Anguilla), `MSR` (Montserrat), `G309` (ECCU), `G759` (WAEMU): no World Bank exchange rate covers them.

No `yoy` on 2. `PAN` (Panama) stops at 2008-05, so nothing sits 12 months back. `GMB` (Gambia) breaks between 2025-09 and 2025-10, where the reported level falls 84% on a unit change rather than a contraction.

No `cagr10` on 5: `GMB`, `GRD` (Grenada), `IND` (India), `PAN`, `SOM` (Somalia). Three have no observation ten years back — India's monthly series starts 2016-10, Somalia's 2018-01, Panama's ends in 2008. Two sit on a broken window: Gambia's 2025 break, and a single anomalous Grenada month in 2024-12 reported at roughly a twelfth of the months either side of it.

No `doubling` on 7: those five, plus `KNA` (St. Kitts and Nevis) and `SMR` (San Marino). Both of those carry a `cagr10`, but a negative one, −0.95% and −0.76% a year. A shrinking money supply has no doubling time. India carries neither figure.

One rule sits behind every gap above: we blank a metric rather than compute it across a break. Gambia's 12-month change is arithmetically available — it comes out at −80% — and it is deliberately not in this file. Where a figure is missing, the rest of that row is still real and usable.

## Licence: what we ship, what we don't

The data licence splits by source, and none of the three grants free redistribution of the full history. World Bank `FM.LBL.BMNY.CN` ships under [CC BY 4.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/), per its [Terms of Use for datasets](https://www.worldbank.org/en/about/legal/terms-of-use-for-datasets) (both checked 2026-08-15). But that indicator compiles IMF *International Financial Statistics* reporting, and the Terms of Use exclude data the World Bank sourced from someone else. We found no World Bank page that resolves this overlap. So we treat these 7 rows as the World Bank's own CC BY 4.0 compilation, credited to the World Bank — not a clearance on the IMF series underneath it.

The [IMF's data terms](https://www.imf.org/external/terms.htm) and the [ECB's copyright and disclaimer notice](https://www.ecb.europa.eu/services/disclaimer/html/index.en.html) (both re-checked 2026-08-17) are narrower still. Personal or non-commercial use is fine. Bulk redistribution is not, and reproduction needs a source credit. So the other 157 rows — 156 IMF, 1 ECB — ship no raw series.

Instead: one current value per series (`latest`, `period`, `unit`), series metadata (`since`, `n_obs`, `source`), and our own four computed columns (`yoy`, `cagr10`, `doubling`, `value_usd`) — a single data point, not the history. The full series stays at data.imf.org or the ECB's Statistical Data Warehouse; every row links there. CEIC and Trading Economics gate the same series behind a sales form. This one is a download button, not a mirror.

Both World Bank lines are CC BY 4.0 attributions and have to travel with the data. The second covers the 7 World Bank rows; the third covers the exchange rates behind `value_usd` on 160 of the 164. Keep them if you redistribute either.

A source correction updates the row it affects and is logged publicly on the [corrections log](/posts/corrections/) — never a silent edit. That's the revision policy behind every number in this file.
